Students looking to keep their skills sharp over summer break can take advantage of an upcoming program at the Community College of Rhode Island’s Newport campus. The school announced today it will host a series of free, week-long robotics and cybersecurity summer camps for students in grades seven through ten.
The sessions are designed to introduce middle and high school students to the fields of cybersecurity and technology through hands-on learning and practical challenges, the college said. The program is The program offers three sessions throughout July, all of which will run Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Newport campus.
The first cybercamp session runs July 6-10; the second is July 13-17 and the robotics session is July 20-24.
The cybersecurity sessions are based on the national CyberPatriot curriculum, which emphasizes experiential learning through instruction, team-based exercises and simulated scenarios. The third session features a focus on the intersection of cybersecurity and robotics, according to the college.
Participants can expect practice in core concepts such as incident response, programming and cyber defense. The program aims to provide an accessible early introduction to an in-demand industry projected for significant job growth over the next decade, the college said.
