The industrial production index experienced a significant increase of 11.78 percent year-on-year to 136.65 in the past month, propelled by a robust demand for artificial intelligence (AI) and high-performance computing technologies.
-
The manufacturing production index, which constitutes 93.72 percent of overall industrial output, rose by 12.68 percent year-on-year to 139.12, marking its 27th consecutive monthly growth and exceeding the forecasted range of 8.4 to 11.6 percent.
-
Strong growth in output was spurred by the expansion of AI infrastructure, which increased production of wafer foundry services, memory chips, and electronic components.
-
Output in the computer, electronics, and optical products category surged by 36.62 percent year-on-year, led by strong demand for servers, switches, and semiconductor inspection equipment used in cloud and data center applications.
-
Conversely, chemical materials production declined by 12.92 percent due to weak demand and maintenance shutdowns, though traditional industries have shown consistent growth since March, though at varying rates across sectors.
-
The Ministry of Economic Affairs is optimistic about the manufacturing sector’s performance in the second half of the year, anticipating it will outperform the first half, fueled by peak season demand and expanding AI applications that boost server and semiconductor production.
