NVIDIA grant boosts UH Mānoa research in AI-powered wireless networks

A University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa team led by Assistant Professor Xiaochan Xue and Associate Professor Yao Zheng has received advanced computing hardware through the NVIDIA Academic Grant Program.
The research focuses on how reconfigurable intelligent surfaces can redirect wireless signals around obstacles to improve network coverage in smart-port environments.
The team will use four NVIDIA RTX PRO 6000 Blackwell graphics processing units to enhance research in AI, next-generation wireless communication technologies, cybersecurity, and other emerging communication fields.
The project aims to develop practical solutions for future wireless networks, specifically addressing challenges in Hawaiʻi’s transportation, logistics, and critical infrastructure sectors.
The research emphasizes creating digital models for smart ports with wireless sensing, AI-powered networks, and real-time monitoring to streamline operations at transportation hubs.
