The House Small Business Committee advanced the SBA Artificial Intelligence Utilization Act (H.R. 8881) to promote transparency in the Small Business Administration’s (SBA) use of AI by requiring annual reports to Congress detailing its use and implications.
-
This legislation follows a Government Accountability Office report highlighting SBA’s delays in complying with federal AI inventory requirements.
-
Earlier this year, two other bills were passed to enhance SBA’s AI tools for small businesses, encouraging the agency’s adoption and education of AI technologies.
-
A statement by Rep. Brad Finstad emphasized that the oversight measure aims to provide Congress with a better understanding of AI tools without hindering innovation.

Two additional tech-related bills were also advanced: the Small Business Technological Act (H.R. 915) permitting 7(a) loans for modern business tools, and the Small Business Cybersecurity Assistance Evaluation Act (H.R. 8880) aiming for a GAO evaluation of cybersecurity risks and available federal support for small businesses.
