- The Paeria of Lleida plans to introduce artificial intelligence into the surveillance and traffic control cameras of the Guardia Urbana to reduce police response times and improve coverage in sensitive areas, starting with 70 cameras in the Barri Antic.
- The mayor, Fèlix Larrosa, highlighted that this measure is part of the local security plan that is 74% implemented and aims to increase the number of urban police officers from 250 to 300.
- The first phase of this program will be expanded to 120 cameras after the successful deployment of AI in 70, with a goal of integrating AI into 350 cameras overall.
- To support this technological investment, the City Council plans to add 87 new cameras to the existing 250, bringing the total to reach 350.
- As part of the city’s security operations, the Guardia Urbana will deploy more than 100 officers for additional events like the Aplec del Caragol, bolstered by 130 private security guards.
