Christians Are Turning to Artificial Intelligence for Spiritual Guidance, Survey Finds – Michael Foust

Survey findings show a significant number of practicing Christians trust artificial intelligence (AI) for various aspects of life including spirituality, financial stability, and mental wellbeing.
Christians are particularly open to AI advice in areas like finding purpose, spiritual growth, and achieving financial stability, with a majority (over 60%) willing to seek AI for financial guidance.
Despite the high level of trust in AI, a large proportion of Christians express concerns about AI’s potential impact on religion, including misrepresentation of Scripture, replacing God, or undermining spiritual leaders.
There is a notable contrast in belief: a portion of Christians, especially Gen Z and Millennials, consider AI’s spiritual advice equally trustworthy as that from a pastor, although there is simultaneously widespread skepticism about AI’s appropriateness in spiritual matters.
The survey highlights the complex feelings Christians have towards AI, reflecting both openness to its use and apprehensions regarding its implications for traditional faith roles and practices.
