Elevator mechanics in the U.S. start their apprenticeships at age 18 through multi-employer union programs involving day work at Otis and evening classes, culminating in a rigorous four-year apprenticeship followed by certification and significant pay.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the average annual wage for elevator and escalator installers and repairers is $109,820, significantly higher than the national average and the category average in construction and extraction occupations.
