The Oklahoma Ethics Commission is addressing the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in political advertising following concerns from lawmakers and the public.
During a special meeting, the commission discussed AI in political ads and reviewed regulations from other states, noting that while many states have enacted rules, Oklahoma currently has none.
The commission emphasizes transparency and disclosure as primary concerns, fearing potential constitutional issues when regulating content.
Due to the lack of emergency rule-making authority, the commission’s actions will take time.
Gov. Kevin Stitt has threatened to call a special legislative session to tackle what he’s termed the misuse of AI in political ads, although the commission’s executive director declined to comment on this issue.
