- UNESCO Headquarters in Paris hosted a public–private partnership round table on 23 March 2026 about establishing the first Observatory on Artificial Intelligence in Education for Latin America and the Caribbean.
- The event was led by Valtencir Mendes, Head of Education at UNESCO Regional Office in Santiago.
- Over 50 stakeholders from significant technology companies, universities, foundations, and organizations contributed, including Tecnológico de Monterrey, UDD, Santillana, CAF, Cetic.br, CENIA, and ECLAC.
- The observatory aims to address foundational learning challenges in the region, especially in reading and mathematics, by integrating artificial intelligence technologies.
- The project seeks to generate knowledge, enhance teacher capacities, and promote experience sharing on the ethical and inclusive use of AI in education.
- Participants were urged by Mendes to join this collaborative effort to innovate in favor of educational future across the region.
- The initiative will officially launch on 14 April 2026 at ECLAC headquarters in Santiago, Chile, marking a pivotal step in regional collaboration.
