Gov. Shapiro addresses AI technology in West Chester

Gov. Josh Shapiro and Attorney General Dave Sunday discussed the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on students and the need for accountability measures during an event at West Chester Community Center.
The Governor launched an AI literacy toolkit and an AI Enforcement Task Force to ensure safety and address misuse of AI among Pennsylvanians, particularly students.
The discussion highlighted the dangers of unregulated AI, including its potential to simulate romantic relationships or provide inappropriate advice, which can harm students’ mental health.
There was a call for legislative, regulatory, educational, and prosecutorial approaches to addressing AI-related issues, with proposed legislation to restrict minors’ access to certain AI functions.
Concerns were raised about the impact of excessive phone use in classrooms and the need for guidelines to enhance educational focus and student safety.
