4th Fintech Xchange explores AI, responsibility to consumers – @theU

The University of Utah’s Fintech Center hosted its 4th Annual Fintech Xchange event, bringing together nearly 400 innovators and executives from companies like Visa, Intuit, LoanPro, and KPMG to discuss industry challenges, regulatory changes, and emerging technologies.
The Fintech Center emphasizes Utah’s favorable regulatory environment and innovation infrastructure while aiming to impact fintech nationally.
Established in 2023, the center has rapidly grown, offering a Fintech minor to 42 students, launching a Fintech Ambassador program, collaborating on economic research, and expanding the minor globally.
The Utah fintech sector has created nearly 8,000 jobs, added over $1 billion in wages, and contributed more than $7 billion to the state’s GDP in 2025; the governor declared February as “Tech Month” and announced a $10 million AI initiative.
During a “hot takes” session, fintech executives emphasized the importance of staying focused on ensuring financial technology helps consumers, rather than exploits them.
The David Eccles School of Business Dean stresses the unique discussions fostering future leaders and opportunities at the Fintech Xchange.
The Academic Senate approved a new financial technology master’s degree, expanding the University’s focus on Fintech and expected to be offered next fall, pending final approval from university trustees and USHE.
