Energy expects $74M in annual savings from new AI and data tools

The Energy Department expects its internal enterprise data platform Quanta and AI tool suite Joulix to generate $74 million in annual operational savings.
The focus for implementing these tools was not on the novelty of the technology, but on using it to achieve the Energy mission.
Quanta will be expanded to all 88 departmental elements by the end of the fiscal year.
In 2025, Energy partnered with Databricks to create Quanta, which helped condense data for compliance tasks significantly faster than manual methods.
Quanta is now used in 44 offices across the agency to process over 500 data sources and assist in strategic project planning.
Other offices are exploring Quanta to improve funding notifications and cybersecurity defenses.
Joulix, which includes the EnerGPT chatbot, has over 21,000 users and is used across the department for various administrative and compliance tasks.
Feedback loops are maintained to continuously integrate new potential AI applications based on employee input.
