AI Scholars to Examine Artificial Intelligence’s Role in Peacebuilding

The G20 Interfaith Forum (IF20) is hosting a webinar titled “AI and Peacebuilding,” which explores how artificial intelligence (AI) can enhance peacemaking efforts.
The webinar will be held on July 16, 2026, as part of IF20’s ongoing “AI and Human Flourishing” series and focuses on AI’s role alongside human-driven peacebuilding efforts.
Key speakers include John, Lord Alderdice, who was a key negotiator in Northern Ireland’s 1998 Good Friday Agreement, Professor Pieter Francois from Oxford University, and Julian Weinberg, founder of Dialogue Action.
The speakers discuss the potential of AI to detect conflicts early, facilitate dialogue, and support collaborative problem-solving while maintaining that AI is a tool for peacemakers rather than a replacement.
Another major point is that AI’s impact on peacemaking is still emerging and it needs careful consideration of its opportunities and challenges.
