- The Arnau de Vilanova University Hospital, the Lleida Biomedical Research Institute, and the University of Lleida are launching an artificial intelligence (AI) project aimed at predicting survival rates in severe trauma cases.
- The project has been awarded a grant of 90,000 euros from the Fundación Mútua Madrileña.
- The AI project will utilize over 22,000 cases from the RETRAUCI registry, which tracks data from critical trauma patients since 2015.
- Led by Luis Servià, the research team will enhance the existing RETRASCORE tool, a mortality prediction model based on classical statistical models, through the implementation of advanced AI prediction tools.
- The study will incorporate new clinical variables such as analytical tests, which weren’t initially considered, to improve the accuracy of survival predictions within the first hours after admission.
- Collaboration with five additional hospitals from Madrid, Santander, Seville, and Burgos aims to contrast the registry data from different medical centers.
- The project is supported by broader initiatives at Arnau de Vilanova University Hospital and is part of 21 scientific projects funded by the Fundación Mútua Madrileña, distributing a total of 2.3 million euros.
