MOL, IBM Japan Launch AI Platform For Vessel

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) and IBM Japan have collaborated to create an AI-powered platform for improving vessel operations decision-making.
The platform, which became operational on July 1, focuses on MOL’s Safety Operation Supporting Center (SOSC), which oversees the safe global operation of MOL vessels.
It consolidates previously disparate data sources to offer centralized vessel operations monitoring and expedite identification of critical events.
The platform includes an AI assistant that leverages generative AI for real-time risk identification based on historical and current operational data.
The AI assistant supports the SOSC team through analysis for decision-making and promotes sharing and analysis of past accident data and operational knowledge.
The platform was developed using SOSC operational expertise, MOL’s IT capabilities, IBM’s AI data utilization knowledge, and IBM’s Garage methodology.
MOL aims to enhance the platform’s capabilities and expand its scope in collaboration with affiliated entities to improve safety in the shipping industry.
