Interdicasterial Commission on Artificial Intelligence meets for the first time

The Interdicasterial Commission on Artificial Intelligence (ICAI) held its inaugural meeting at Palazzo San Calisto, establishing a new body for coordinating and promoting collaboration among various Holy See entities engaged in the study and use of AI.
The meeting aimed to foster coordination, collaboration, and identify common priorities among representatives from various Dicasteries and Pontifical Academies, focusing on how AI can serve human dignity and the Church’s mission.
Cardinal Michael Czerny, S.J., emphasized the importance of prudent discernment in addressing AI, considering its rapid evolution, impact on human dignity, and growing Church-technology sector dialogue.
The Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development was tasked with coordinating the Commission during its first year.
The Commission plans to progressively define its activities, starting with mapping existing initiatives and establishing guidelines for AI use within the Holy See, while also promoting open dialogue with external academic, scientific, and business communities.
