U of I expands AI legacy with new degree programs

University of Idaho is launching three new AI degree programs starting Fall 2026, including bachelor’s, master’s of science, and master’s of engineering, accessible at Moscow, Coeur d’Alene, and fully online.
These programs combine classroom instruction with hands-on research and industry partnerships to equip students with skills in AI system building and real-world problem-solving.
The new programs capitalize on nearly 40 years of foundational AI education, starting from the first AI course introduced in 1986.
Employment opportunities in AI are projected to grow by 25.5% in the Mountain West region by 2034, and industry partnerships are central to the program’s curriculum.
The university has a track record of AI-related research and innovation, partnering with organizations like Washington University School of Medicine and Amalgamated Sugar to address complex industrial challenges through advanced machine learning.
