Taylor Launches New Bachelor’s Degree in AI and Machine Learning

Taylor University’s Computer Science & Engineering Department has a long-standing history of engaging with artificial intelligence since the mid-1980s.
This fall, Taylor is launching a Bachelor of Science in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning with the goal of preparing students to not only work in, but also lead the development of AI.
The program was developed over two years through discussions involving faculty, board members, donors, alumni, and external advisors.
The course requirements include 90 credit hours, focusing on machine learning, data science, and AI systems, and integrating hands-on labs and a research sequence.
Unlike other programs, the Taylor AI curriculum is grounded in Christian ethics, addressing ethical considerations in AI and its potential alignment with the Great Commission.
Taylor’s curriculum is notably the most AI-specialized among Christian peer institutions, with more required credit hours dedicated to AI and machine learning.
The program offers a unique two-semester research sequence and a specialized course on Computational Linear Algebra which is not present in competing secular programs.
The curriculum aims to prepare students with both technical skills to build AI systems from the ground up and ethical knowledge to develop them responsibly.
