Google AI chief: Creativity and taste will matter most in the age of human-level AI

Google DeepMind CEO Demis Hassabis anticipates the achievement of Artificial General Intelligence (AGI), AI capable of performing tasks rivaling human abilities, by 2030.

Hassabis’s prediction aligns with sentiments of other leading figures in AI, such as Sam Altman of OpenAI who also foresees advanced AI systems by 2030.
However, there are varying perspectives within the AI community, with some, like Anthropic’s Dario Amodei, suggesting even earlier AI advancements, and others, such as Yann LeCun from Meta, dismissing the imminent arrival of AGI.
The definition of AGI remains vague, with different experts interpreting it in differing scopes, from true general intelligence to more modest forms of cognitive task performance.
