AI Play summer camp brings hands-on learning to digital game design

Elon University hosted its first AI Play summer camp for rising middle school students interested in artificial intelligence from June 15-19.
The camp, held in Lindner Hall, included 13 participants who engaged in ‘unplugged’ activities and hands-on learning about various AI concepts without the use of computers.
Students participated in activities related to pathfinding, facial recognition, machine learning, and more, while also discussing ethics in AI.
A standout moment included a workshop showcasing the Elon robot dog, demonstrating students’ growing interest and understanding of AI.
The primary goal of the camp was to increase students’ AI literacy and to spark interest in technology, computer science, and engineering.
