SZA hits out at “disgusting” AI music after learning over 200 of her songs had been used to train artificial intelligence

SZA discovered that over 200 (specifically, 238) of her songs were used for training artificial intelligence music systems without her consent.
She publicly expressed her outrage against those who support the use of AI in music, calling them ‘disgusting’ and asserting that nothing could make this issue okay to her.
SZA has long voiced her disapproval of AI, reflecting on the topic in her 2022 album “SOS” and stating that AI’s impact on Black artists is particularly concerning due to a crisis it continues to foster.
She emphasized that AI disproportionately affects Black music and produces stereotypical and unwanted versions of it.
SZA criticized AI for creating music without crediting the original creators, highlighting the unfair advantage this gives AI.
This isn’t SZA’s first criticism of AI; she has often spoken against its codependency, environmental racism, and its effects on Black and Brown communities.
Other notable critics of AI include Pope Leo XIV, Martin Scorsese, and filmmakers/musicians like Deezer, Spotify, and Kane Parsons, reflecting broad and varied discontent with AI’s role in the music industry.
