Luca Guadagnino’s Sam Altman movie dropped by Amazon after it announces OpenAI partnership

Amazon, a significant partner of OpenAI’s CEO Sam Altman, has decided to drop Luca Guadagnino’s biopic “Artificial.”
The film, focusing on Altman’s controversial firing and reinstatement by the board in 2023, stars Andrew Garfield as the protagonist.
This decision comes in the context of Amazon’s substantial investments in OpenAI, including a recent $15 billion investment.
The film, scripted by Simon Rich, had been rumored to have a portrayal of Altman that Amazon felt might not be favorable.
Despite the split, Amazon expressed respect for both Guadagnino and Rich, hoping to maintain their ongoing relationship.
“Artificial” had been scheduled for an awards run over Christmas and a wider release in early 2027, timed to avoid competition with other similar films.
The film also stars notable actors like Ike Barinholtz, Jason Schwartzman, Cooper Hoffman, and Mark Rylance.
Previous studios like Warner Bros and Paramount had reportedly been uninterested in the script for “Artificial.”
