Edmonton students accused of creating sexualized images of classmates using AI

Two 14-year-old Edmonton junior high school students have been charged for allegedly using artificial intelligence to create child sexual exploitation images of their classmates without consent.
The incident came to the attention of authorities from ALERT’s Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) unit after a teacher notified police in March, following complaints from students.
The Edmonton junior high school involved has not been identified by authorities.
Apart from making and possessing child sexual exploitation materials, the two boys are also charged with voyeurism.
This is the second incident involving AI and child sexual exploitation materials that ICE has investigated in a school setting, with a similar case occurring in December at a Calgary high school where a student was charged for similar actions.
The Edmonton Police Service and Zebra Child and Youth Advocacy Centre collaborated on the investigation.
