1.5 Million DoD Workers Using Military AI Program Daily: Official

The Department of Defense (DoD) generative artificial intelligence platform, GenAI.mil, has seen a dramatic increase in usage, surging from fewer than 100,000 users six months ago to 1.5 million currently.
The initial implementation saw only 80,000 out of 3.5 million department workers using the tool, attributed to unclear guidelines and lack of direction.
The substantial increase in daily users has been driven by Pentagon directives on appropriate AI use, enhanced understanding of AI capabilities, and exposure to AI outside of work.
The platform is intended to improve efficiency by handling monotonous tasks such as paperwork, freeing up staff to focus on more critical activities.
The broader Pentagon initiative includes adopting AI for routine functions and warfighting, with requests for billions of dollars in the fiscal 2027 budget for advanced AI and computing technologies.
