Google Sues Chinese Smishing Network Accused of Using Gemini AI in Phishing

Google is pursuing legal action against a Chinese cybercrime network using Gemini AI for distributing phishing text messages targeting Americans.
The network developed a phishing-as-a-service software kit called Outsider, which generates fraudulent phishing pages and executes ‘smishing’ attacks through SMS messages.
Inside the phishing kit, victims can be misled to click on links leading to websites mimicking trusted brands to steal personal and financial information.
Google aims to dismantle the network’s infrastructure and is working with top U.S. carriers to block spam messages.
Over 100,000 people are estimated to have been victimized by these schemes, causing millions of dollars in losses.
