Anthropic has taken its latest AI models, Fable 5 and Mythos 5, offline due to a directive from the Trump administration aimed at preventing their use by foreign nationals.
The move represents the U.S. government’s most significant step to restrict access to advanced AI models, as the Fable model was recently released widely and Mythos has been tightly controlled due to cybersecurity concerns.
Anthropic disagrees with the government’s action and believes the directive does not align with a transparent, fair, and technically grounded process for blocking unsafe deployments.
The company characterizes the directive as a “misunderstanding” and intends to restore access to these models as soon as possible.
