CIPM seeks responsible AI adoption, honours scholars

The Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria (CIPM) emphasized the importance of responsibly adopting Artificial Intelligence (AI) to ensure ethical, accountable, and human-centred practices at an academic conference held with the University of Lagos.
Ahmed Gobir, President and Chairman of the CIPM, highlighted the need for responsible AI governance focusing on human dignity, fairness, transparency, inclusion, and accountability.
Prof Sunday Adebisi noted that AI has become a global infrastructure, impacting learning, production, governance, and communication, while warning of the challenges Africa faces in maximizing AI benefits, including inadequate digital infrastructure and skills gaps.
Henry Onukuwba, also from CIPM, praised AI’s potential to improve service delivery and education but stressed the necessity of integrating it responsibly to avoid compromising fairness and trust.
The conference acknowledged the need for stronger collaboration between academia, industry, and government to create transparent, fair, and innovative AI systems that consider the future of work.
Outstanding research contributions at the conference were recognized, with Dr Aramide Kuforiji receiving the top award and Prof Sam Bodunrin and Dr Ifeanyi Enukorah securing second and third places.
