Warren seeks admin leadership to testify on AI policy

Sen. Elizabeth Warren is urging the Senate Banking Committee to invite Trump administration officials, specifically Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, to testify about the administration’s plan to regulate artificial intelligence (AI).
Warren’s request comes in a June 8 letter to committee chairman Sen. Tim Scott, emphasizing the need for insights from senior government leaders on AI issues.
She has pointed out absence of administration leadership in the upcoming AI-related hearing of the Senate Banking Committee scheduled on Thursday.
In the letter, Warren mentions several national policy concerns involving AI, such as threats to the US financial system and increased electricity costs due to data centers.
Warren asked if AI companies’ borrowings, export control mismanagement by Commerce, and potential safeguards against financial collapse by Treasury have been considered.
The request follows a highly active week for AI policy at the executive level, including a recent executive order by President Trump asking for private sector models to undergo security analysis and quick collaboration with AI developers for government use.
