Trump issues a new AI national security memo

President Donald Trump signed a new artificial intelligence (AI) national security memorandum, establishing a framework to ensure the responsible use of AI in warfighters and intelligence systems, while replacing a previous memo by the Biden administration.
The Department of the Air Force appointed Ashley Devoto, a cybersecurity expert and veteran, as its new chief information officer. Her responsibilities include overseeing modernization and sustainment efforts for information technology, leading the department’s enterprise information technology and AI portfolios, and managing approximately $17 billion in technology investments.
The memo focuses on policies that drive four key actions regarding the use of AI in national security.
The Air Force has been without a permanent CIO since March 2025, following the departure of Venice Goodwine.
