Labour will make AI ‘work for the workers’, says Liz Kendall | AI (artificial intelligence)

Liz Kendall insists that Labour will ensure artificial intelligence (AI) “works for workers” and prioritizes support for those whose jobs may be lost due to AI.
In response to public concerns about AI’s impact on employment, especially for young people, Kendall claims the government will actively shape AI adoption to benefit workers.
Kendall has adjusted a £187m TechFirst AI training scheme to ensure 40% of targeted children will come from disadvantaged schools, aiming to spread AI opportunities more equitably.
She highlighted new schemes in the north-east and north-west of England delivering summer skills camps for young people not in education, employment, or training (NEETs).
Kendall emphasized the importance of providing all people, especially those in disadvantaged areas, with opportunities from AI and ensuring they get the choices they deserve.
She expressed support for NHS digitization efforts while stressing the importance of backing British AI companies.
While discussing the future of AI, Kendall underscored the government’s active role in shaping AI’s development in response to challenges posed by big tech, including social media for under-16s.
