Anthropic raises further US$65bn to eclipse OpenAI in market valuation

Anthropic PBC raised US$65 billion in a recent funding round, leading to a company valuation of US$965 billion.
The funding round was led by Altimeter Capital, Dragoneer, Greenoaks, and Sequoia Capital, each contributing more than US$2 billion.
Alphabet Inc’s Google invested several billion dollars as part of a previous commitment to invest up to US$40 billion in Anthropic.
Amazon.com also contributed US$5 billion in line with an earlier commitment.
Additional contributions came from Micron Technology Inc, Samsung Electronics, and SK Hynix Inc.
Anthropic is expected to post US$10.9 billion in revenue for the second quarter, more than doubling from the previous quarter and anticipating its first profitable quarter.
Anthropic surpassed rival company OpenAI in valuation, which had a valuation of US$852 billion in a funding round completed in March.
Anthropic expects its annualized revenue to exceed US$50 billion by the end of next month, a significant increase from its run rate of US$4 billion in July of the previous year.
