New Yorkers split on artificial intelligence

A significant portion of New Yorkers are using AI tools, with 66% saying they have used AI chatbots such as ChatGPT or Gemini.
44 percent of residents are using AI tools at least weekly, with 21 percent using them daily.
A statewide survey shows 43 percent of New Yorkers believe the disadvantages of AI outweigh its benefits, while 37 percent think the benefits are greater.
Nearly half of New Yorkers have stated an increased use of AI tools compared to a year ago.
Younger residents (under 35) are much more familiar with and frequently use AI chatbots compared to older residents (65+), highlighting potential future divides in AI literacy.
Among AI chatbot users, personal use is more common (41%) than use for work (24%).
Despite varying familiarity and usage, concerns about AI’s long-term impact are consistent across all ages, with 40% of residents under and over 50 sharing these concerns.
AI is becoming a pervasive part of daily life, with most New Yorkers regularly encountering AI-generated content.
