Gong emphasized the need for AI systems to better reflect human experiences, wisdom from faith traditions, moral teachings and human values.
New studies introduced at the summit revealed systematic religious biases in current AI systems, highlighting the necessity for AI creators to mitigate these biases.
The convergence of views between Pope Leo XIV and Elder Gong stressed the urgency of ensuring AI has a moral compass, emphasizing that neither corporations nor governments should solely determine AI’s moral direction.
Gong proposed faith-based benchmarking and ethics tests to better gauge how AI systems embody morality and shared values.
He suggested five design principles to guide AI personas: protecting human moral agency, incorporating altruistic values, ensuring AI transparency, preserving human decision-pause ability, and mitigating harmful AI tendencies.
