Leading filmmakers discussed at a Cannes Marché du Film panel titled “From Creative Possibility to Production Reality: Kling AI in Cinematic Workflows” debunked the misconception that AI is a “magic button” for making movies.
US director Jon Erwin emphasized that AI tools like Kling AI accelerate and amplify creativity rather than create for filmmakers.
There is a prediction of an increase in creativity and originality once advanced AI products like Kling AI 3.0 become more accessible.
Chinese animation director Wei Li believes AI is providing new opportunities for more creative freedom and reducing labor-intensive tasks in animation.
South Korean director Eekjun Yang shared that for himself, AI was a necessity more than a choice, especially for first-time feature filmmakers struggling to secure investment.
All directors agreed that while AI may lead to cheaper and faster film production as a by-product, its main value lies in enhancing creativity, collaboration, and broadening the avenues for storytelling.
Smaller and more intimate scenes are often more challenging for AI tools to render but some tools like Kling AI are particularly effective in emotional expression.
Despite its young age, Kling AI has already served more than 60 million global creators and is set to collaborate with UK company Evolutionary Films on a new animated project, Minibots.
