St. Paul District’s AI Initiative: The St. Paul District is actively integrating artificial intelligence (AI) into its operations and workforce development.
Leadership and Involvement: Chris Bowen, chief of construction and leader of the district’s AI working group, is playing a pivotal role in developing AI literacy training and fostering an innovative culture.
Course Development: A new USACE learning center course on AI is being developed aimed at helping employees apply AI techniques to their routine tasks to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
Informal Learning Culture: The “Sips and Scripts” biweekly meetings provide informal training and a supportive environment for employees to learn about and discuss AI applications.
Skepticism and Comparison to Internet: There exists skepticism regarding AI similar to past skepticism around the internet, highlighting the transformative potential and challenges of new technologies.
Vision for the Future: The district is preparing its workforce for an AI-enabled future, creating low-pressure, collaborative environments to gradually integrate AI into their daily work practices and innovations.
