Trump White House AI ‘One Rulebook’ Blueprint

The Trump administration released a national framework for artificial intelligence (AI) regulation aimed at creating a unified federal standard to replace a patchwork of state laws.
The six-pronged framework addresses child safety rules, AI developer liability, intellectual property protections, AI censorship, data-center permitting, and tools to combat AI-enabled scams.
David Sacks and Michael Kratsios emphasized the framework’s intention to foster innovation and American ingenuity in AI while addressing key concerns like safeguarding children and intellectual property.
The framework seeks to preempt state AI laws that could create undue burdens, advocating for a minimally burdensome national standard instead of fifty different state regulations.
It includes exceptions allowing states to maintain authority over child protection, fraud prevention, consumer protection, and zoning of AI infrastructure.
The administration aims to pass the framework into legislation by the end, though many analysts believe it is unlikely to clear Congress before the midterm elections.
