ST PAUL, Minn. — A “cybersecurity event” has left some drivers with vehicles equipped with ignition interlock devices unable to drive their vehicles.
Intoxalock, which provides ignition interlock device services to Minnesota and several other states, confirmed the issue in a post on social media Monday.
“Intoxalock is currently investigating a cybersecurity event that was recently identified, impacting our ability to service our customers,” the company posted. “We are committed to providing our customers, partners, and stakeholders with timely updates as we learn more.”
Under Minnesota state law, ignition interlock devices are an option for “eligible alcohol or drug offenders” to measure the driver’s alcohol concentration level. The device is connected to the engine; if the device detects alcohol, the engine will not start.
Viewer messages sent to KARE 11 and posts on the Intoxalock Facebook page indicate some drivers have been unable to go to work because of the issues with their devices.
Intoxalock said it will post status updates to its website. The company said its service centers will offer a 10-day extension on calibration and certain towing charges.
“Intoxalock will be covering (calibration) costs that are a direct result of the temporary system pause,” the company posted.
