43% of CIOs wish artificial intelligence had never been invented

A survey by global technology service provider Logicalis found that 43% of CIOs worldwide wish AI hadn’t been invented, with 38% of CIOs in Ireland and the UK expressing similar sentiments.
While 94% of CIOs report an increase in their organization’s appetite for AI over the past year, more than half (51%) feel that adoption is happening too quickly relative to the necessary frameworks.
Just 37% of CIOs feel their organization has full visibility over AI tools and services in use.
Gaps in AI governance have led to concerns: 57% fear that employees are at risk of compromising data security through AI tools, and 34% see AI creating new security blind spots.
59% of CIOs believe their organization relies too much on a single AI vendor for critical functions.
62% of CIOs have compromised on AI governance due to insufficient knowledge and understanding.
Despite the concerns, innovation remains a strong driver of AI investment, particularly in strengthening predictive analytics and enhancing customer experience.
The study highlights the need for robust AI governance to responsibly manage the rapid adoption of AI, as both its benefits and risks become increasingly apparent.
