Sriman Achanta is a freshman studying computer science at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) College of Engineering, working on advanced prosthetics and research projects involving machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI).
At high school, Achanta participated in the International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) with a project on a 3D-printed transradial prosthetic that uses machine learning and helped design a study involving computer simulations on MRI data from both autistic and nonautistic patients.
His interests in AI and medical applications were nurtured at the Todd Allen Phillips Center for Medical Sciences in high school, where he learned to tailor his presentations for a technical audience.
Achanta appreciates VCU’s culture of early research involvement, allowing him to collaborate with various students and faculty, such as Dr. Hadimani and Dr. Radhika Barua, who provide valuable advice.
He expressed that VCU College of Engineering trusts students early into their studies, offering them opportunities sooner than students at other universities.
