UA Little Rock planning to launch AI bachelor’s degree this fall

University of Arkansas at Little Rock (UALR) plans to introduce a new bachelor’s degree in artificial intelligence (AI) this fall.
The program aims to meet the growing demand for AI knowledge in the job market due to its rapid development and increasing employer interest.
UALR’s AI program will focus on skills not covered in its existing computer science curriculum, such as developing AI models and integrating advanced STEM knowledge.
Students will earn certificates of proficiency and technical certificates while still in their first two years of the program.
The AI program is designed to benefit students from all majors by providing fundamental AI knowledge applicable across various professional fields.
National security concerns and the AI race with China have contributed to the urgency in creating this program to ensure the U.S. maintains a strategic advantage in AI.
UALR’s Board of Trustees has already approved the program, and the Arkansas Department of Higher Education is expected to finalize its approval in April.
