Microsoft AI Chief Warns White-Collar Jobs May Vanish Within a Year

Microsoft AI CEO Mustafa Suleyman predicts that AI will largely replace white-collar jobs, specifically office roles, within the next 12 to 18 months.
He mentioned that AI could soon take over tasks currently performed by professionals like lawyers, accountants, project managers, and software engineers.
In software engineering, AI now assists in code writing, shifting engineers’ focus to strategic planning over manual coding.
Suleyman added that creating a new AI model will soon be as simple as podcasting or blogging, allowing schools and organizations to tailor their own tools.
He also forecasted that AI agents will be able to manage many organizational processes within the next 2 to 3 years.
Suleyman emphasized Microsoft’s aim to develop extremely advanced AI and its extension of partnership with OpenAI until 2032.
The CEO mentioned Microsoft’s commitment to building its own AI foundation models, with strong teams to manage large data efficiently.
These remarks come amid growing concerns about AI-driven job replacement, with examples like Amazon’s recent job cuts attributed partly to AI competition.
