Church in Northern Thailand urges ethical formation in the AI age

Church leaders in northern Thailand emphasize fostering stronger conscience, values, and ethical responsibility amidst the rise of digital technologies and artificial intelligence (AI).
The Catholic Church in northern Thailand held its 2026 Annual Regional Seminar focusing on emerging technologies and their ethical implications, with an emphasis on the document “Antiqua et Nova.”
The main speaker, Fr. Joseph Anucha Chaiyadej, highlighted that AI lacks true intelligence, consciousness, and life and should be used to serve humanity rather than dictate human stories.
Fr. Joseph addressed significant modern concerns including “truth decay,” deepfakes, and filter bubbles, urging clergy to navigate these challenges with transparency, inclusion, and accountability.
He advocated for the “opening of the black box” in AI systems to ensure transparency, especially in crucial sectors like education and governance, to uphold human dignity and Church missions.
