La Mesa joins government artificial intelligence coalition

La Mesa, in East County, became the first city to join the GovAI Coalition aiming to stay ahead of technological trends and risks.
The GovAI Coalition was initially proposed by the city of San José in 2023, which has since seen hundreds of cities and municipalities nationwide become members.
Councilmember Genevieve Suzuki led the effort to secure La Mesa’s membership in the coalition, emphasizing AI’s integration into various municipal operations such as traffic management and public safety.
La Mesa’s participation aims to provide collective wisdom on AI and to develop responsible AI policies in a collaborative manner.
Suzuki highlighted the importance of protecting residents’ data privacy while ensuring transparency and accountability concerning technological advancements.
