Elon Musk’s X Restricts Ability to Create Explicit Images With Grok

X (formerly Twitter) announced it will block Grok, Elon Musk’s AI chatbot, from generating sexually explicit images of real people in certain locations due to global outrage.
Multiple regulators worldwide, including Ofcom in the UK and California in the US, are investigating Grok for violating laws related to non-consensual nudity and child exploitation.
X stated it will use “geoblocking” to restrict Grok from providing such imagery in jurisdictions where the content is illegal, but this does not apply to the standalone Grok app and website.
X has limited Grok’s image-generation capabilities to paying subscribers in an attempt to mitigate regulatory backlash, but several countries, including Indonesia and Malaysia, have banned the chatbot outright.
Global efforts to regulate A.I. generated content are intensifying, with Ursula von der Leyen criticizing the technology and the European Union employing tools like the Digital Services Act to monitor and regulate such activities.
Various countries including parts of the European Union have stringent laws against nonconsensual nude imagery and possess severe penalties for its distribution.
