President Lai unveils AI goals, plans

The government has announced a 10-year initiative to develop artificial intelligence (AI) and create an AI innovation system that integrates AI into everyday activities such as food, clothing, housing, transportation, education, and entertainment.
The goal of educating 500,000 AI professionals by 2040 drives this initiative, and NT$100 billion will be invested in a venture capital fund to support this effort.
AI’s impact on global production and lifestyle transformation has already brought about an industrial revolution, according to President Lai.
Taiwan’s technology industry is poised to maintain its competitive edge in the future by focusing on AI applications rather than solely on hardware manufacturing.
The government plans to establish a national computing center and develop critical technologies like silicon photonics, quantum computing, and robotics.
The ultimate aim is to construct a comprehensive AI innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem and assist small and medium-sized enterprises in digital transformation.
The government emphasizes the importance of a populace skilled in utilizing AI for enhancing national competitiveness, rolling out AI training for public sector employees and students.
Collaborations between government, industry, and academia will be pivotal in leveraging AI for economic transformation and boosting small and medium-sized enterprises’ competitiveness.
