Louisville, Ky., appoints AI chief, announces AI permitting pilot

Louisville, Kentucky, Mayor Craig Greenberg has appointed Pamela McKnight as the city’s first chief artificial intelligence officer.
McKnight, formerly with Intel for nearly three decades, will lead the newly established Office of Artificial Intelligence to explore AI’s potential in increasing efficiency, transparency, and smart decision-making.
A pilot program is being launched in collaboration with AI startup Govstream.ai to use AI in streamlining the city’s building and remodeling permitting processes.
The AI-powered smart assistants and Conversational Workflow platform from Govstream.ai aim to identify bottlenecks, enhance transparency, and provide fast, predictable feedback and approvals.
Mayor Greenberg emphasized that this move leverages technology to modernize outdated processes, thus serving residents better and reducing delays and frustrations in project timelines.
