One careless scan or unsecured device can be enough.”According to the organization, common risks at large public events include tampered QR codes that redirect users to fraudulent websites, unsecured Wi-Fi networks that allow data interception, and compromised payment systems that can capture credit card information. Devices used for displays, ticketing, or sales can also be vulnerable if they are not properly updated or secured.PennCyber recommends that visitors verify QR codes before scanning, avoid sensitive transactions over public Wi-Fi, and closely monitor financial accounts during and after the event.
