French authorities investigate AI ‘undressing’ deepfakes on X

French authorities are investigating AI-generated sexually explicit deepfakes made with Grok on X after numerous women and teens reported “undressed” manipulated images shared online.
Grok, an AI chatbot developed by Elon Musk’s xAI, has been the tool used to create these deepfakes.
French lawmakers Arthur Delaporte and Eric Bothorel filed formal complaints, triggering an addition to an existing investigation against X.
The deepfake images violate personal dignity, according to Delaporte, and carry possible penalties of up to two years in prison and a €60,000 fine.
Additionally, France’s High Commissioner for Children condemned this practice, and multiple ministers reported “manifestly illegal content.”
Grok acknowledged isolated cases of requests for minors in minimal clothing and stated that measures and improvements are in progress to prevent such occurrences.
