Accelerating Scientific Discovery With AI

The Genesis Mission is a national initiative driven by the Department of Energy (DOE) aimed at advancing scientific discovery, engineering, and innovation through the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) and advanced computing across the federal government.
This collaborative national effort involves DOE’s 17 national laboratories, industry, and academia to create a secure, integrated platform for scientific discovery.
Key partners include the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL), the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA), and Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), which are developing AI-driven capabilities across various scientific fields.
DOE has established public-private partnerships with companies like Anthropic, Oracle, and NVIDIA to foster scalable AI capabilities and shared research infrastructure.
The initiative strengthens the United States’ technological capability, global competitiveness, energy security, and national defense.
It is in alignment with the White House’s AI Action Plan, which outlines over 90 federal policy actions to enhance AI leadership.
