Global consortium launches AI tools to accelerate Alzheimer’s research, treatments – WashU Medicine

C-BRAIN, a consortium co-founded by WashU Medicine and including members from academia, industry, and philantropy, launched three open-source AI tools to speed up Alzheimer’s research.
The three tools, developed as part of the C-BRAIN project, include an AI that synthesizes Alzheimer’s and neuroscience literature, the “Dark Data Analyzer,” which finds insights from unpublished data, and “Reviewer Three,” an AI that provides feedback on research proposals.
C-BRAIN aims to tackle the challenge where over 99% of drug candidates for Alzheimer’s fail in clinical trials by leveraging artificial intelligence to combine fragmented scientific knowledge.
The tools are made freely available to global biomedical researchers in neurodegeneration, developed with support from the National Artificial Intelligence Research Resource (NAIRR) Pilot program.
The C-BRAIN consortium’s design ensures pharmaceutical partners’ proprietary data remains secure, while still contributing to the tool’s development, allowing for AI-driven discoveries that are scientifically verifiable.
